In the December of 2002, Wilson won $2.3 million on a $.025 slot machine in Las Vegas. By 2011, he had a $300 a day pill addiction and was not seen after 6 AM without a drink in his hand.
After reaching rock bottom and waking up with a gun next to him in bed, he decided to get help. Through rehab, community, and 12-step fellowship, Wilson was able to get sober, and he's been sober since July of 2011. About one year into recovery, he found Olive Branch CrossFit and a crew of wonderful people. Somewhere along his fitness journey, he found the love of trail running and set his sights on the Lift Heavy Run Long 50mile/400deadlift club.
He has since become a partner in Lift Heavy Run Long and believes it is his mission to try and support and encourage people to be active and enjoy their lives. Wilson has no stance on the different varieties of exercise but is confident that activity, of any type, will enrich people’s life.
Wilson started the Lift Heavy Run Long Podcast in an effort to build community and help people to feel comfortable about sticking their toe into the intimidating world of fitness and activity.
Wilson has a weekly blog on www.liftheavyrunlong and writes under the nickname of “Beefcake”.
Wilson Horrell is a 40-year-old father of two children, and a husband of a beautiful wife named Amanda.
